Empowering Women, Empowering the World

Although education is considered a basic human right, about two thirds of the world’s illiterate adults population, which is approximately 520 million, consists of women. These 250 million uneducated women do not even know how to read and write and thus, gone is the chance of them ever going to institutions like devry university to study for a collegiate course.

The United Nations has been particularly concerned with women’s education as educated women and mothers are more inclined to produce improved nutrition, health and education in the family. The effect that educated mothers have in the family would also have a ripple effect on the economy. Johnnetta Cole of Spellman College once said that when you educate a man, you educate an individual, when you educate a woman, you educate a nation. This statement is true, as a woman’s education or her lack of education has a profound impact not only on her own life but also on her family, especially her children, and ultimately, on the world.

Mothers are usually the first teachers of their children. It is through mothers that children first learn how to be affectionate, responsible, and conscientious. It is also usually through mothers that children learn the alphabet, how to count and how to recognize things. Thus, an educated and knowledgeable mother would also mean educated and knowledgeable future citizens of an economy.

Education from Experience

The world is such a huge place to learn about and explore. This is the very reason why it is not enough that students stay in class, read their books and listen to what the teacher says. It is equally important that the students experience first-hand what it is to see the real thing, experience the real thing. This is the very purpose of Educational Travel.

Experience – this is exactly what can change the students’ lives after their trip. Yes, such an activity may require an additional expense for parents, but educational tours can really change the lives of your children. Educational travels allow students to wonder what’s more beyond the books and outside the four corners of the classrooms. Educational trips make students see, feel and experience the real thing and not just depend on their imaginations.

Such trips should be done considering the subject involved such as Science, Art, etc. The best interest of the students, possible destinations as well as the amount that may be spent to push through with the school activity are also important things to take into consideration to ensure the success of the school activity.

Making the Diorama Project

Your child announces at dinner that their class has been requested to do a diorama for a project. Excited as you are, you start asking questions like when the project is due, what your child’s ideas for the diorama are, and what materials are going to be used. You start visualizing in your mind how the diorama will be constructed, and you might even envision installing craft lights on it to impress the teacher. Yet, before you start the construction of the project, there are some things that you need to remember to make sure that making the project with your child is as enjoyable as viewing the finished diorama will be.

First, taking your child’s interest in mind, it is better to let your child do the initial talking before you shower him with your ideas. Ask him about his ideas first since it is his school project, not yours. As a parent, your “project” is to be his handy assistant. Second, since dioramas are not done in just minutes, the teachers usually give their students ample time to make it and you should definitely use that time into your advantage of getting all the necessary materials instead of waiting for the day before the project is due to construct the diorama.

Safety is also another thing to be mindful of when helping your child make the project. Assist him in using sharp tools like scissors as well as in installing those beautiful electrical craft lights that would add more beauty to the project.
