Making the Diorama Project
Your child announces at dinner that their class has been requested to do a diorama for a project. Excited as you are, you start asking questions like when the project is due, what your child’s ideas for the diorama are, and what materials are going to be used. You start visualizing in your mind how the diorama will be constructed, and you might even envision installing craft lights on it to impress the teacher. Yet, before you start the construction of the project, there are some things that you need to remember to make sure that making the project with your child is as enjoyable as viewing the finished diorama will be.
First, taking your child’s interest in mind, it is better to let your child do the initial talking before you shower him with your ideas. Ask him about his ideas first since it is his school project, not yours. As a parent, your “project” is to be his handy assistant. Second, since dioramas are not done in just minutes, the teachers usually give their students ample time to make it and you should definitely use that time into your advantage of getting all the necessary materials instead of waiting for the day before the project is due to construct the diorama.
Safety is also another thing to be mindful of when helping your child make the project. Assist him in using sharp tools like scissors as well as in installing those beautiful electrical craft lights that would add more beauty to the project.
